The story of S.
Nov 15, 2008
So I was at
IIW 2008b the other day,
and I was giving a session about the iPhone I-Card Selector. The audience
was very interested, asking questions and giving advice on how to proceed
politically. One of the points we discussed was whether anyone knew
somebody at Apple (whom we could 'officially' approach with this project),
but no one seemed to have any connection to them.
Then suddenly S. walked into the room to join our session. Although S. and I
had never met before, for reasons I don't
want to explain here I KNEW that S. was working for Apple!
However, I pretended not to be aware of this, and I asked him as casually as I could
"Hi, do you work for Apple?". "Yes", S. said, clearly surprised by the sudden
attention I (and a few seconds later - the whole audience)
attributed to him. Then I explained it all - the nature of the software,
its "incompatibility" with the terms of Apple's Developer Program, and our hope
of somehow getting it "approved".
And his reaction? Guess what! Instead of calling the cops and having me arrested
for writing "illegal" iPhone software, he actually said that he liked it!
Weeeeeee!
Now this little story is not meant as an indication for support from Apple.
S. is neither involved with iPhone development, nor did he "officially"
represent his company at that event. BUT: To all of you who think that everyone
at Apple is evil and that they don't care about community projects: You're wrong!
